River Advice was founded by Robert Straubhaar in 1999. At that time the company was called FKC (Flusskreuzfahrten Catering AG), however between 2000 and spring 2004 there were no business activities.
In April 2004 River Advice became operational after Robert Straubhaar and Robert Heijlands decided to give up their respective management positions with two leading river cruise companies in order to offer their long-time experience and expertise to all players in the world-wide river cruise market.
Thus 'FKC' was renamed 'River Advice' and the brand copy-right protected. The original business model was based on consulting only and it quickly became much sought after. However, clients and business partners expected more than just consulting from Straubhaar and Heijlands; they wanted them to take over the operational implementation of the projects as well. The business model was adapted. Subsidiaries were founded (2005 River Services GmbH, 2006 River Nautical and River Catering), the number of employees climbed from 2 to over 1000.
Thus River Advice managed within a few years to become established as the leading service provider for the river cruise industry world-wide.
