River Stories

  • Cycling

When I first started, I had absolutely no idea what was waiting for me here on board. I had so many questions running around in my head: Will I like the work? Will I get along with my colleagues? Can I turn a leisure activity into a way to get away from it all?

When I’m not working, I love to go biking – it’s a good way to burn off extra energy.

Thankfully, all my questions were answered with a “yes!” almost right from the start:

We work hard on board, but it’s a perfect work-life balance. My colleagues are easy-going and in our free time we get lots of exercise and are really active. When the boat is in a harbor for a longer period of time, I can always get out on a bike tour, sometimes with and sometimes without my colleagues. The bike paths along the rivers are great and perfect for getting in an excellent workout.

  • Fishing

I applied to River Advice because a lot of my hobbies have to do with water – my very favorite is fishing.

I can give 100% at work if I get to do my favorite thing every once in a while.

A balance between my job and my hobby is my idea of perfect.

And that’s just what I have here. I am totally happy that my job is on the water.

It’s demanding but I have a certain amount of freedom for my passion: my fishing rod is always with me.

I’ve been able to get lots of my colleagues excited about it too – we even have a ranking of who caught the biggest fish.

  • Shopping

My motto is: my job has to match my lifestyle – fashion and trends are my thing.

I’m a fashion blogger in my free time and I’ve met tons of exciting people who are just as (fashion) crazy as I am. And they’re all over Europe!

That’s why I love my job so much: I can meet up with them to shop in the big cities and I get new inspirations all the time.

I never would have thought that I would have enough time – because the job does take a bit of energy.

But it really is possible and I am so happy! The best part is that we travel all over Europe so I can discover and try out all kinds of new styles.

Sometimes I take my colleagues along and I get to inspire them and give them advice.

  • Skateboard

I’m new here on board and I’m a skater in my free time:

a freestyler and a street surfer.

That works in great with my job at River Advice.

And the job is perfect for me because even though I work hard, I can still chill out on board.

When the boat is docked in the harbor, I can take off with cool people I’ve gotten to know here.

On our trips through Europe I still find time to check out all kinds of skater scenes and to polish my style.

My job is an awesome springboard.
