Duties / Responsibility

  • Independent management of the ship according to existing law and regulations
  • All tasks that are necessary for a safe command of the vessel
  • Water levels
  • Draught of the vessel
  • Weather
  • Heights of bridges
  • Ballast
  • When the ship is docked a guard has to be appointed according to law
  • Regular safety drills must be held with the nautical crew

Papers and Documents

  • Control of all papers that must be on board
  • Attestations
  • Certificates
  • Licences for technical equipment
  • Crane books
  • Maps
  • Police regulations
  • Keep a folder in the wheelhouse with all required papers
  • Ensure that all logs are kept (ship’s log, night auditor’s log, registers of service etc.)
  • All safety-relevant test seals
  • Keeping of a logbook (diary) - property of River Advice!
  • Oral and written reports of all incidents
  • In nautical and safety matters the Captain is the highest authority on board!
  • Always be friendly and courteous towards everybody, especially guests and crew

Required:

Languages: German, written and spoken, English, written and spoken

Training / School / Further Education: Completed vocational training, Valid master’s certificates

Work Experience: Several years of work experience in a similar position in the shipping industry

Personality profile character: Friendliness, good manners, honesty, independence and leadership ability, flexibility, organisational skills, loyalty, objectivity, good communication skills, stress-resistant and well groomed

  • Management and safeguarding of the ship, responsibility for the safety of guests and crew, personnel management

  • Emergency exits
  • Monitoring of gangway and lighting at night
  • Assignment of nautical personnel for guard duty when the ship is docked and guests are on board

  • Controlling of the assigned tasks
  • Ordering of nautical materials
  • Management of waste disposal and supply of drinking water

Sailor - (m/f/d)

Duties / Responsibility​

  • Wheelhouse duty: Be on permanent standby for the Captain on duty
  • Report on deck always well on time when the ship is entering a lock or for any ship’s maneuver
  • During the passage of low bridges, watch out for the passengers; maybe cordon-off stairs in cooperation with the Captain on duty.
  • Make all preparations for maneuvers during docking or departure
    • arrange ropes

    • heaving lines
    • radio devices
  • Safety during extravehicular work and maneuvers
    • wear a life vest always and without any exceptions!
    • wear solid shoes and gloves
  • All work material (tools, brushes, dinghy, life vest etc) must be handled with care and diligence
  • Know the station bill in case of emergency
  • Independent and regular checks of ropes
  • Monitor gangway and ropes independently when the ship is docked

Ship’s maintenance

  • Take care of all cleaning and maintenance jobs on deck
  • Clean windows as required, if possible of the whole ship
  • Touch up coat of paint where necessary
  • Keep the sun deck tidy at all times. Adjust, clean and dry tables and chairs. Vacuum the carpeted floor. Always check the sun deck when there are no guests present (early morning, during lunch or dinner).
  • Always be friendly and courteous towards everybody, especially guests and crew
